Lincolnshire LDC Update
For those who attended last Thursday’s lecture, thank you for coming, especially if you travelled a distance and we hope you enjoyed the evening. The lecture was thought provoking and timely on how oral health and general health should be integrated. The feedback was the best the LDC has ever received. Thank you. Here are some of the comments:
“Thank you to you and all the LDC for organising. It was the most relevant lecture I have attended in the last 10 years. Really inspired me when I was getting disillusioned with dentistry."
"Thank you, I'm already thinking of how I'm going to add all the information into my appointments for my patients. Some really good facts and figures that can plant seeds for behaviour change. 🪥 🦷❤️."
"It was inspiring and reinforced the prevention message especially from such a credible source. I’m sure in years to come there will be further consolidation between oral and general health. My nurse and I immediately put it into practice and have discussed it with many patients yesterday. Hopefully, there will be behaviour change and more money pumped into NHS dentistry."
"It’s good to see the mouth being put back with the rest of the body and it needed someone like Graham to help bring this about. It would have been a brilliant lecture for the medical students at Lincoln Medical School. It will have stimulated a lot of the dentists and DCPs to think very differently about perio. and its importance.”
There can be benefits with Zoom and Teams, but it’s good to have face to face meetings which give us an opportunity to meet up in person and network with colleagues. The challenge after Thursday’s presentation is that next year’s has to be equal or better!

Some feedback from the recent Fluoride course held in Lincoln.

Mythbusters
To clarify the sometimes-inaccurate information we hear, often with respect to the care of the elderly in care homes, please right click the following CQC hyper link.
This is a very useful link covering many aspects of dentistry. For an examination, oral health assessment or providing dentures, dental teams would not be expected to take the full range of resuscitation equipment on a home visit. This is in line with other health care professionals such as GPs. What equipment is taken depends on the risks identified in the risk assessment. It would be expected that the practitioner takes appropriate emergency drugs when undertaking domiciliary visits. (Dental MythBuster 24)
And Finally,
There is so much work going on behind the scenes. A Joint Needs Assessment for Lincolnshire has been finalised and we await its publication. The outcome of this will have a bearing on the direction of travel of dental services in our area.
A Project Officer, Susie McPherson, has been appointed for our Centre of Dental Development and we will shortly visit the first operational CDD in England in Ipswich.
Skill mix is still somewhat problematic and although positive noises are forthcoming, issues remain with the PGD. We are assured that exemptions are about to be lifted. See link below :
