Kenny's Update 21st Feb 2021 - a little late!

February 21st Lincolnshire LDC Update number 46

Dear all ……………

Last week, NHS practices received a request to submit figures for members of staff who have taken up the recent offer to be vaccinated. You will be aware that the LDC had already obtained these figures and have already sent them to NHSE. Therefore there is no need for you to do this.

The following table was sent in an email by NHSE on 18th February. These figures show a varying degree of uptake of the vaccine across the Midlands. I am not sure when these numbers were collated, but they are misleading as they are low and do not include Private Practices. Our data is taken from NHS practices, private practices and Special Care Services and a result our numbers are much higher and more accurate. In Lincolnshire 1096 members of dental teams throughout the county were offered the vaccine…………….. 89% have been vaccinated.

If you, or any member of your team, or know of anyone who has still not been vaccinated and wishes to take up the offer, please contact us at lincsldc@gmail.com

Unfortunately the table can't be inserted here

I want to help in the vaccination programme……………..

Last week we put out a request for dental staff to help support the programme. Thank you to all those who responded. We now have a growing list and should you wish to get involved please email us at the above.

Assuming there are no availability issues, second vaccinations for priority one and two groups will be given at the end of this month and next, along with first vaccinations for the over 60’s and possibly the over 50’s.

We are working closely with the CCG and as soon as we have further information on how you can help, we will let everyone know

What the white paper means for dentistry in England

The white paper recently launched by Health Secretary Matt Hancock spells fundamental change in the way healthcare will work in England. New laws are set to reach the statute books in 2022, and change will not be limited to the NHS.

Indeed, the results will likely be felt by dental colleagues across NHS and private services, in high street, community and hospital settings. And while technically England-only, the policies set out are likely to influence the direction of travel in other UK nations.

BDA Chair Eddie Crouch tells us what you need to know about how these reforms could impact the future of dental care. I would recommend you read it.

And finally ………….LDC Open Meeting Tuesday 23rd February at 7pm

Last week, Sharon sent out an agenda and a link to join. The purpose of Tuesday’s meeting is to update you to what is going on locally and nationally…………..and there is much! I will do the local bit and Emily Smithard will report on Secondary Care and referral protocols. Shawn and Jason will then discuss Q4 and then focus on April 1st onwards. It is an open and interactive meeting for all members of the dental team. Everyone is welcome. If you have questions you want to send in beforehand, then please do so at lincsldc@gmail.com We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday. Here is the link and agenda

Stay safe and healthy

Best wishes
