January 31st Lincolnshire LDC Update Number 43
Dear all, a slightly shorter update this week.
The vaccination programme is well underway. When all staff members who wish to be immunised have received the vaccine, please will the practice owner / partner / practice manager please inform Sharon Cook, our administrator at lincsldc@gmail.com . This is very important information for the CCG and thank you to everyone who has already done this.
There has been one our two issues reported to us, namely, a medical practice who did not think dental teams were high priority and secondly a dental practice that has not been contacted to have their vaccination. If there are any practices or individuals having any difficulties in this respect please let us know at the above email address. We can help so please let us know.
Shawn Charlwood
On Thursday, Shawn, who is a member of the committee of Lincolnshire LDC, was elected to Chair the General Dental Practitioner Committee (GDPC) of the BDA. This is a great personal honour for Shawn and much deserved for many years of hard work at the BDA. It is a hugely important role.
The GDPC represents dentists from all four nations of the UK and promotes the interests of all dentists in our profession, ie Primary and Secondary Care, Academia, CDS and the Military. Private Dentists and Associates are also represented on this committee.
A principal role of GDPC is to negotiate with Government. I’m sure if you are an NHS Practitioner you will agree the 20 % offer in Q1-Q3 was a good one and whilst the increase in activity target to 45 % was less well received, it could well have been more if Government had their way.
I enclose the following letter from Shawn to Matt Hancock which outlines the BDA’s current position.

LDC Meeting on Tuesday 23rd February
It perhaps hasn’t escaped you, that with Shawn now GDPC Chair and Jason, Deputy CDO, we have two members of our committee who have a very significant national presence in our profession. To keep you updated with current events, the next LDC meeting will be an open meeting available to all by way of Microsoft Teams. A link will be sent in due course and this is an excellent opportunity to listen and ask questions on the direction of travel of our profession.
Nigel Bourne
Nigel’s funeral takes place tomorrow February 1st at 11:30 am and those who wish to join in the service, can do so on line. There have been many lovely tributes to Nigel since his death, which reflects the standing he held within the Dental Community, not just at a local level but regionally and nationally. Thank you to all of you who have contributed to his named charities. I know that Dianne, Nigel’s wife, has been amazed by the amount received and wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and their kindness.

And finally ……………………
The LDC have resourced a company who will be able to provide a report on ventilation / air exchanges in your treatment rooms. We are making sure there is approval from PHE and NHSE before circulating details. Look out in next week’s update.
A sub group within the LDC are working on developing a new website for the LDC. As this develops we hope this will be a resource that will be useful to you and easily accessed.
A frequently asked question by NHS Practitioners is “What is happening in April? Will there still be UDA’s and will our targets increase? “……………..Come to the LDC meeting in February and hopefully find out!
Stay healthy and safe
Best wishes
Kenny Hume Chair Lincolnshire LDC
